Can you believe it’s nearly Christmas 2021?
Now that restrictions are starting to ease, workplace Christmas parties and end of year celebrations are being organised.
Many workplaces have a Christmas Party of some sort.
Celebrations being organised this year could be quite different to past years, but there are still rules and obligations that each staff member needs to understand.
All workplaces should have a set of guidelines, policies and procedures that staff members need to comply with whilst attending a work function or if they are at a function representing the business.
For example, having drinks with your colleagues at the end of the year may be fine – but posting photos of it without permission and potentially bringing unnecessary attention to it is not a good idea and may be in breach of the Social Media policy of the business.
When an employee agrees to a Code of Conduct, they agree to conduct themselves in a professional and appropriate manner whilst at any work events, whether they are with other businesses or at a social event, employees need to ensure that they are aware that the Code of Conduct applies at social functions and events outside of the normal workplace. For example, running around intoxicated and shirtless is not going to be positive look for the business
As an employer, it’s really important you make sure that your employees are aware of your policies and that they apply inside and outside of the workplace.
Have a chat with them before the event and answer any questions that they may have, let them know you are hoping for a fun and positive atmosphere and let them know how much you do appreciate them and everything they do for the business.
It’s really not about being the fun police, but making sure you reinforce your expectations and your policies in relation to workplace behaviour.
Most of all, enjoy the fun with the staff and have a lovely holiday period.
If you’d like to find out more about what workplace policies you should have in place or would like some guidance about informing your employees about the expectations you want to set in preparation for your Christmas celebrations, book in for an introductory call.
