DiSC is an assessment tool that can be used to improve aspects of your work productivity, teamwork, leadership, sales, and communication by measuring your personality and behavioural style.
It’s not a test, there’s no good or bad profiles.
It’s not for measuring values, intelligence, learning or aptitude. There are other tools that can measure these things.
DiSC profiles assess human behaviour in various situations that are usually related to the workplace. The DiSC profile gives you information about how you respond to challenges, how you can influence others, & how you respond to various situations.
It can help you understand your approach to things & your behavioural tendencies. It can help you to learn to recognise and understand the behavioural styles and strengths of others too.
You can learn when to adapt your behaviour, and develop strategies to help you improve your communication. It’s not about pigeon holing people or trying to be someone you’re not, it’s just an extra tool for you to use to improve your communication.
One of the foundations of personal and professional success is to understand yourself, understand others, and realise the impact of your own personal behaviour on others.
Have you ever had a discussion with a client, employee or colleague that just didn’t click?
Would you like to know how to communicate with people in business, the workplace and in your personal life, regardless of how different their personality is?
DiSC is a tool that can help you.
Self-awareness is a common trait in successful people. Learning how to understand your behavioural style (and take advantage of that understanding) can help you get that competitive edge by capitalising on your strengths and understanding other people’s strengths and the best way to communicate.
It’s been used for decades to help people better understand themselves and others.
The four primary dimensions of behaviour according to DiSC profiles are:
Dominance: direct, strong-willed, decisive, results-oriented, forceful
influence: sociable, talkative, enthusiastic, outgoing, optimistic, lively
Steadiness: accommodating, consistent, supportive, even-tempered, patient, humble
Conscientiousness: private, analytical, logical, reserved, systematic, precise
Most of us tend to be either one dimension or a combination of two of the four dimensions.
The DiSC profile helps you understand your behavioural tendencies. When you understand the different profiles, DiSC can help you learn to recognise and understand the behavioural styles of others, learn when to adapt your behaviour or your approach if you need to
Whatever your DiSC personal profile is, it’s perfect for you, we’re all different
Sometimes being yourself will work just fine for you, and other times it just doesn’t work, so knowing your DiSC style and understanding the DiSC profile of the person you are dealing with could help you communicate better.
When being yourself doesn’t get the positive results you are after, you need to be able to adapt your thinking and behaviour to be more effective. You don’t want to be manipulative, but adapt your approach to see if you get a better result.
Everyone has a primary DiSC style but we can all display aspects of all the other styles. DiSC can give you with the knowledge to practise those behaviours so you can adapt when you need to.
One of the great things about understanding the DiSC model is that you can learn people-reading and recognise others’ DiSC styles.
Be aware that people are a mixture of styles, so sometimes you may not read it correctly and you may be interacting with someone who also knows they sometimes need to change their approach to meet the circumstances.
“Knowing others is intelligence; knowing yourself is true wisdom. Mastering others is strength, mastering yourself is true power.” Lao Tzu
